HELLO EVERYONE! My name is Ashley Bowman. I am currently a junior at University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I am a Special Education Major in Watson College of Education. Currently I am Seahawk Link and a Desk Receptionist at Schwartz resident hall at UNCW. I love UNCW and it was my #1 college to attend since my sophomore year of high school. One of my favorite UNCW traditions is Oozeball, which is mud volleyball (pictures below!). Once I graduate I plan to go to University of Georgia for grad school to get my Masters in Student Affairs in Higher Education.
I was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. Some of the most important things in my life are my friends,my family, and my church. I look just like my dad and I act just like my mom. I am also biracial. I have an older sister named Olivia and she is a senior at UNC Asheville. One of my favorite things to do is to be a camp counselor. I have been attending a summer camp called the Swamp since I was 9 years old. I have returning to the Swamp as a counselor for the past 4 years. I have also been fortunate enough to go to India with Swamp to help start a summer camp in Chennai. At UNCW I am a member of Alpha Omega which is an on campus ministry.
One piece of advice that I would love to give to you is to not be afraid to try new things. College is the best place to reinvent yourself. But college can also be scary. One of my favorite quotes is "Doubt kills more dreams then failure ever will..." Don't let this doubt hold you back from being the person that you truly are. Always try new things, meet new people, and sometimes get a little crazy.
I hope that you enjoy your first year at UNCW.
XOXO,
Ashley
